The Ring

Inspired by the design of the ITER tokamak (nuclear fusion reactor) in the French village of Cadarache, I designed the Ring.

I have tried to translate the aesthetic, repeating patterns of the neutron screen of tokamak reactors into a simple wooden design, which also had to fit through the narrow door of our old studio. The ring can be completely disassembled in parts up to 80 x 80 x 80 cm, and this functional limitation has played an important role in the final aesthetic outcome of this work.

The ring is a preliminary study for a much larger project, called the Ring II.
